There are some areas of our home that we just forget about. When it comes to places like cleaning the counters, washing your comforter, and dusting, those are usually not the ones you forget about. What about all the areas you’ve overlooked? The ones that when you finally find make you want to plug your nose. Not only are we going to show you how to clean the top neglected parts of your home, but make sure you never forget about them again!

Shower Curtain

When was the last time you washed your shower curtain? I’m going to guess that it’s been a little while. Your shower curtain should be cleaned once a month, and can be done in your washing machine! To wash your shower curtain, just toss it in the washer with detergent and bleach (or a bleach alternative) and let it hang to dry. If you notice soap scum building up, then wash it sooner.

Light Switches

What is one part of your home that you will touch every single day? Light switches! This sounds like such an easy thing to clean, but this is one of the most neglected parts of the home! Light switches are a breeding area for bacteria and germs, so you want to clean them at least once a week if not more frequently. All you need to do is wipe them down with a disinfecting cloth of your choice.

Remote Controls

Our remote controls get used so often, sometimes even daily. However, like the light switches, this is another neglected item in most homes. You should be wiping down your remote controls at least once a week, but I do them whenever I clean the living room. You can use a disinfecting cloth of your choice on this as well.

Underneath and in between Appliances

The areas around and underneath appliances rarely see the light of day, because of this, they are one of the last areas to get cleaned. Dust, food, crumbs, and who knows what else get caught underneath and in between your appliances. Ideally, you should move larger appliances once every few months to clean underneath and around them, but try to wipe down the tops and underneath if you can manage every few weeks.

Pet Beds

We are all guilty of cleaning after our furry friends. If you have a pet, then you know just how much hair they leave around the house. When it comes to their beds, we often feel like it’s not our place to clean or touch them. Just like you would clean off the fur on your furniture, the same rules apply to the pet beds. You should be cleaning these weekly, depending on how many animals and pet beds you’re working with. Vacuum the pet bed in all the crevices and remove any pet hair you can find. If your pet bed is machine washable, send it through once a month, or whenever it starts to get an odor.

Adding these places to your regular cleaning routine will help make sure you never forget to clean them again! Once you start cleaning these items regularly, they won’t be such problem areas when you do go to clean them.
